Police say a man, believed to be around 40 years old, was arrested on Wednesday for running an illegal marijuana grow operation at a home in Dearborn Heights.

They estimate there were around 150 marijuana plants in the backyard of the house on Rouge River Dr. They say there was a fertilizing and watering system. They also found marijuana plants and lights inside the house.

Police discovered the illegal grow operation while responding to a burglar alarm in the neighborhood on Wednesday. While they were checking on that, they wound up finding the pot plants. The home is owned by a woman in her 70s, but investigators believe her son was the one behind it all. When he arrived at the house, he was arrested.

A neighbor says he smelled marijuana for a few weeks, but didn't know where it was coming from.

Dearborn Hts. police say they will continue gathering evidence and then submit a warrant request to the Wayne Co. Prosecutor for charges.
