A suspect is in custody following a police chase ending in a rollover accident on eastbound I-96 and Haggerty Road Wednesday afternoon.

The incident began around 3 p.m. when a Brighton Police officer was patrolling the Brighton Mall parking lot. The officer spotted a vehicle wanted in a felony hit-and-run accident that occurred near eastbound I-96 and Pickney Road a few minutes earlier.

When the officer attempted to stop the suspect, who was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe, the suspect continued to drive but was slowed down by traffic. That's when the suspect flipped the officer off and fled east on I-96.

Michigan State Police then assisted in the pursuit until the suspect crashed his vehicle near eastbound I-96 and Haggerty Road.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was then transported to Botsford hospital in Farmington Hills.

Police say heroin and other drugs are suspected.

No officers were injured, and no police vehicles were damaged in the chase.
