DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Police Chief James Craig says he’s mad over learning of a social media post, that disparaged an African American woman pulled over on a traffic stop.

“This is something we are going to investigate thoroughly and the officer will be dealt with” says Craig.

The officer is now reassigned to restrictive duty and has been demoted down from the rank of corporal. The officer hasn’t commented and declined our request for comment. In the Snapchat video posted by the officer, remarks are made that the department has acknowledged are racially offensive.

Also, a civil right leader is echoing the remarks made by the Chief and calling for action to be taken.

“This is the type of behavior that we cannot stand for and must not tolerate as a society,” says Detroit NAACP President Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony.
