Local police and fire departments are exploring ways to respond to an active shooter situation.

The Madison Heights Fire Department hosted a drill at Lamphere High School on Saturday to prepare first responders and engage students.

Eight fire departments and police agencies from Oakland County created a protocol on what to do in the event of a mass casualty school shooting.

"A portion we're practicing is called rescue task force," said firefighter Kevin Powers. "It's where police come together quickly and treat them and transport them to a hospital."

Students from the high school's drama team played the victims.  They say they were happy to participate out of fear it could become a reality.
