Police investigate fatal pedestrian collision involving Amtrak train in Dearborn

DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police are investigating an incident involving an Amtrak train in Dearborn.

On Jan. 27 around 11:40 p.m., Dearborn police responded to the railroad tracks near Outer Drive south of Michigan Avenue for a pedestrian struck by a train.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a person had been fatally struck by an eastbound train. No passengers or train crews were injured, police say.

According to police, the collision did not take place at an approved rail crossing.

The incident remains under investigation, and the identity of the victim is not being released at this time.

“This is a tragic situation and our condolences go out the families involved," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad.

The train was delayed for about three hours.
