A family dispute has ended in tragedy.

Detroit police say a 44-year-old man is fighting for his life after a shooting this morning.

It happened on Detroit's southwest side.

Tina Canfield tells 7 Action News that her younger brother, Joe, is holding on for dear life after being shot several times.

"They were both in happy spirits, I don't know what went wrong," said Tina.

Tina says Joe, who's 44 years old, was shot by their 17-year-old cousin, Dan, outside of the home that the two live in on the 5800 block of Lumley.

Police say Joe took the keys to the truck at the home. The teen apparently warned him not to, and when Joe didn't listen, shots were fired.

Tina says the two shared the truck and were likely arguing over something else.

"My understanding-- they got into an argument at the bar over a girl," said Tina.

The family, now in disbelief, says whether it was over the truck or a girl, no argument is worth a life.

The alleged shooter remains in police custody.

*Editor's note: Earlier, police had confirmed that the 44-year-old had died in the shooting. We're now told he is in critical condition.*
