At approximately 11:15 p.m., MSP 911 was notified by Detroit police of a shooting.

Police say the driver of a Dodge SUV stated he was shot at the top of the ramp from eastbound I-96 and Greenfield. The driver was not hit, but his vehicle was struck.

The suspect vehicle continued south on Greenfield.

Police say the incident is pending further investigation regarding the circumstances of the shooting.

Michigan State Police have stepped up patrols after an increasing amount of freeway shootings this year.

The majority of the shootings have happened on I-96 and Southfield Freeway.

First Lt. Mike Shaw previously told 7 Action News that investigators have learned some of these shootings were an effort to avoid detection from green light cameras in Detroit.

MSP is now teaming up with the Michigan Department of Transportation to use their cameras.
