Detroit police are investigating after a man was shot inside a home on the city's west side on Tuesday morning.

We're told a group of people impersonating cops were involved.

It happened in the 6300 block of Mettetal not far from Warren Avenue and the Southfield Freeway.

Police say three men, identifying themselves as police, broke into a house and shot a man in bed before stealing an undisclosed amount of money and running off.

The victim, police say, was shot twice in the back. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

Police say a 5-year-old was in the home at the time of the shooting but was unharmed.
