Michigan State Police and the Alcona County Sheriff's Department are asking for the public's help to identify human remains that were discovered in northern Michigan in 1994.

About 23 years ago, a hunter reportedly found the skeletal remains in a wooded area near Bamfield Road between Curtisville and Alcona Dam in Alcona County.

Anthropologists at Michigan State University believe the remains belong to a female around 30 to 50 years old, according to a news release from police. She was likely around 4'7" to 5'6" tall and Caucasian.

Researchers indicate the woman may have been in the woods for up to four years before she was found. There was also reportedly evidence of a fractured skull.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
