DETROIT (WXYZ) — Police have ended a barricaded gunman situation on Detroit's northwest side Tuesday morning.

Detroit police say a 33-year-old man had a woman and child inside a home on Stoepel just off Livernois near Fullerton. The man is now in custody, and the 30-year-old woman and 1-month-old baby are in protective custody, according to DPD.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area of Livernois and Fullerton.

DPD says the situation started with a call of shots fired from a lower level duplex on Stoepel.

The suspect was a man in his 30s, according to police, who they say was armed with a short rifle.

No officers were hit, but DPD says the man fired shots while they were on the porch.

Officers were able to negotiate with suspect over the phone.
