WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Huron Township Police Department released a community alert Saturday morning on reports of a possible cop impersonator moving through Wayne County.
On April 12 around 10:30 p.m., Brownstown Police received information that a woman was pulled over by a white man driving a large dark-colored SUV presenting himself as police officer near Inkster Road and Sibley Road. The SUV had a red and blue light attached to the rear-view mirror and a spotlight near the driver's side.
The suspect approached the woman and asked her multiple times to roll down the window. As the woman tried to use her phone to call 911, the man returned to his SUV, turned off the "emergency" lights and headlights and drove away.
Brownstown Police describe the suspect as a white man in his early 30s with light facial hair on his chin. He was wearing a navy blue light jacket with "POLICE" across the chest and a navy blue baseball cap, curved brim with "POLICE" across the face of the hat and dark-colored jeans.
No weapon, gun belt, patches or badges were seen, according to the woman's report.
The suspect vehicle did not have any known police marking on the side, Brownstown Police say.
Officers say if an unmarked SUV tries to stop you, pull into a lighted area and call 911 to verify. Police officers will be in full uniform.
Huron Township police have not received any reports from residents, but due to Brownstown's proximity to their community, neighbors are urged to be vigilant.
