WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — A horse rescue unfolded on Wednesday as police responded to a call from neighbors in West Bloomfield.

It was along Middlebelt Rd. just north of 15 Mile that they saw a horse walking down the road. Police responded quickly, making an effective rescue before anyone got hurt.

“We are very proud of our officers, who used their skills to safely bring the horse home, without getting injured or anyone else being hurt” says Dep. Chief Curt Lawson. Lawson says the officer first gained the trust of the horse.

“He jumped over the fence, but fortunately traffic that early in the morning wasn’t as heavy as normal” says Lawson. He adds, he is very proud of men and women in the department serving the community during the crisis, and doing so with professionalism.

Police say they’re also happy with how things turned out, given that it was in a construction area and not currently meant for pedestrian or horse traffic.
