(WXYZ) — Police have identified a suspect in the shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a Beaumont health facility in Lake Orion, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The facility is located at 1455 S. Lapeer Road.

The sheriff's office says there is no threat to the public and it is not an active shooter situation. The incident was released to a marijuana debt. Police say the victim came to the parking lot to pay off the debt. The suspect then pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded all the victim's money.

The suspect and victim then struggled, with, police say, the suspect shooting the victim in the right knee. The victim then fled the scene, with the suspect attempting to fire again. However, the gun did not go off.

The suspect was one of three people to flee the scene in a 4 door dark metallic blue Chevrolet Malibu.

Sheriff's deputies cleared the building as a precaution. Lake Orion High School was also placed on lockdown as a precaution during after-school activities.

Originally, two people were reported to have been shot. The sheriff's office now says there is only one victim and that the victim has been transported to the hospital. The injuries are non-life-threatening.

A search for the suspects is ongoing. Police have not released any information on them at this time.

Beaumont released the following statement regarding the incident:

We are saddened that an incident occurred in the parking lot of our Lake Orion facility. The incident did not involve any patients or staff. The sheriff's office tells us this was a private dispute between two individuals. We are proud of how our Beaumont team locked down the building as a security precaution. And, we are relieved that our patients and staff are safe.
