Water main repair may cause brown water in some areas of Garden City, police say.
The water main work on Craig Street is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 15.
Officials are encouraging residents to check their water before doing laundry and to "avoid doing laundry at all if you see any discoloration of you water."
If residents do see brown water, running the faucet will solve the problem.
The water is not harmful, according to police.
