Are you ready to vote? Tuesday, March 8, is Michigan's presidential primary election day. We only vote in an election like this every four years, so it's important to keep a few things in mind.
This year's Michigan primary is a closed primary. That means you'll be asked to choose whether you are voting as a Republican or as a Democrat. You'll receive the appropriate ballot based on your preference.
When can I vote in Michigan?
Polls are open from 7 a.m. through 8 p.m. across Michigan. There are actually four counties in the western Upper Peninsula that are in the Central Time Zone. That means some Michigan voters will still be able to vote for an hour after polls have closed in metro Detroit.
Where do I go to vote?
Every registered voter has an assigned polling place near the address where they are registered. You need to vote at your assigned polling place. You can use a state tool to look up your polling place.

What will be on my ballot?
Most metro Detroit voters will only be choosing a presidential candidate to represent their party. There are, however, a few communities where voters will have other questions on their ballots. Several communities, for example, will also vote on millage renewals.
