President Trump calls Gov. Whitmer to 'be much more proactive' in response to COVID-19 outbreak

(WXYZ) — President Trump took to Twitter Tuesday morning calling for Governor Gretchen Whitmer to "be more much more proactive" in her response to the coronavirus outbreak.

On MSNBC Tuesday morning, the governor critiqued the Trump administration's response to the pandemic and urged the federal government to provide more support. Whitmer said the federal government "hasn't been prepared" for the pandemic and that they are instead using "every tool in the toolbox" to create safe and economic policies in the state of Michigan.

Whitmer responded to Trump's tweet with her own thread, laying out everything she has done in the state so far.

Schools, restaurants, bars, gyms, spas and other public space have been ordered to close temporarily. Whitmer even signed an executive order reducing the number of people allowed at assemblages and events to 50.

As of March 17, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Michigan sits at 54.
