The City of Detroit has launched a program aimed to help homeowners avoid the risk of foreclosure.
Detroiters who are delinquent on their 2017 property taxes will receive Homeowners Property Tax Assistance Program applications to determine their eligibility for tax relief.
City officials say they have mailed 3,741 applications to delinquent property owners. Another 5,000 applications were mailed out after receiving requests from owners.
How it works
Homeowners must apply for the assistance by December 10, 2018. Depending on the applicant's level of income, they may be granted either half-exemption or full exemption.

If a property owner fails to pay property taxes for three years, they will be subject to foreclosure by Wayne County.
