(WXYZ) — Political parties and everyday people are starting to take sides – those in favor and those opposed to impeachment.

The conversation is even more important in Michigan, a swing state.

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, President Donald Trump will be hosting a “Merry Christmas Rally." Doors will open at 3 p.m. to accommodate the thousands of supporters the administration is expecting in Battle Creek.

President Trump is not the only one in his administration visiting the Mitten State.

Vice President Mike Pence will be in Saginaw for an 11:30 a.m. event. He will then join President Trump in Battle Creek.

Last night, Lara Trump, daughter-in-law to President Trump, met with supporters in Sterling Heights.

“The fact he speaks his mind, stands up for what’s right," said one Trump supporter.

“He cares about our safety, immigration and building the wall," said another Trump supporter.

“We’ve seen fundraising go through the roof, since Pelosi called for impeachment a couple months ago," said Lara Trump. "In a way, they’re helping us out.”

With these planned visits comes planned protest.

The Michigan Democratic Party is planning a media conference outside President Trump's planned rally in Battle Creek. The conference will happen at the same time doors are expected to open: 3 p.m.

Other protests in Southeast Michigan have already been underway.

They have been happening since last Friday, when the House Judiciary Committee passed two articles of impeachment. Those protesting are hoping law makers impeach the president.

“It’s not just a matter of disagreeing. This isn’t politics. It’s a big thing for our country and it’s time for him to be held accountable," said a Trump protester.

“A lot of people turned out to say President Trump has gone one step to far," said another Trump protester. "He puts his own interests ahead of the country and we will not stand for it. We are here to protect citizens.”

The seven Michigan House Democrats and Independent representative Justin Amash has indicated they plan to vote yes on impeachment.

It is expected the six Republican representatives here in Michigan will vote no.

7 Action News will be in Battle Creek for the President's rally. We plan to live streaming the event on Facebook and WXYZ.com.
