SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A rally from Detroit Will Breathe is expected to be held Monday in support of six protesters who were arrested in Shelby Township over the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, protesters gathered in the township to protest the city's police chief. Police say the group of about 100 protesters gathered in a parking lot and met with officers, who told them to stay on the sidewalk.

Police say at about 4 p.m., the group left the parking lot and went on 23 Mile Rd. blocking traffic. According to police, they said they gave the protesters numerous warnings, but they refused which resulted in the arrests.

Detroit Will Breathe said that the protesters were assaulted after marching onto Van Dyke, and claim that one woman was strip-searched. Police said the woman was arrested but escaped her flex cuffs in the back of a patrol car and stripped her clothes off, and that the rumor of a strip search was "completely false."
