1-year-old Detroit boy attacked by family dog at home

Detroit police say a 1-year-old boy was attacked by his family's dog at a home on the city's west side this afternoon.

According to police, it happened in the 18500 block of Muirland, near the intersection of Livernois and 7 Mile.

Detroit Police tell Seven Action News the child was with his mother in the kitchen of the house. The dog came into the kitchen with one of the child's toys in his mouth. The child tried to take the toy from the dog and the dog attacked. 

The child was listed in serious condition at last check per police. 

Police say the dog is a golden setter and is six years old. The family just got the dog two weeks ago.  The dog has been seized by Animal Control.
