A transformation is in the works for a new recreational path through the city of Detroit.
It's called the Inner Circle Greenway and it just got what it needed to get the first phase going.
It's an 8.5 mile stretch on the city's west side that will connect the neighborhoods to its parks, businesses, the Riverfront and downtown.
It will be a non-motorized space just like the Dequindre Cut, with paths for walking, biking and so much more.
This stretch is the largest unfinished portion of a 26 mile loop around the city.
The city of Detroit recently acquired the land which is the location of an abandoned railway line. The city also just got a $2 million dollar grant from the Wilson Foundation for the design and framework of the Inner Circle Greenway.
The whole project is expected to be finished in the fall of 2019.
