House fire at artist Tyree Guyton's Heidelberg Project in Detroit; Arson investigation under way

DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - Arson Investigators will be looking for evidence at a house that is part of the iconic Heidelberg Project.

Witnesses say the home caught fire before 4 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters responded and put out the flames.  It later rekindled and they had to return to the scene.

The Heidleberg Project is something artist Tyree Guyton has worked on for almost three decades.

His work involves in part turning Detroit's empty houses into artwork.  He has talked about how Detroit is a city that many have given up on, and his goal is to bring life and beauty to things that appear dead.

He has seen success. His project is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city.

Even with his typically optimistic perspective, the burning of his work has overwhelmed him.

He was too upset to go on camera, but said, "Just know… this isn't going to stop me.  This will make me stronger."
