Bidding closes on Packard Plant; Massive Detroit auto factory auctioned for over $6 million

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A doctor from Ennis, Texas is the winning bidder in the Packard Plant auction.

Dr. Jill Van Horn secured the winning bid for exactly $6,038,000. A total of 117 bids were received and it came down to a bidding war at the bitter end.

Bids kept climbing throughout the day and the auction was extended past the 4:45 deadline while bidding ramped up.

Dr. Van Horn is a family practice physician in Ennis. She is married and has a 13-year-old son. She's originally from Pennylvania and went to undergraduate school at Lafayette College in Easton, PA.

She went to medical school at University of North Texas Health Science Center - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Wayne County Treasurer's Office tells 7 Action News that it is not uncommon for investors to ask someone else to bid on their behalf to help maintain their anonymity.

The office also says there were three bidders who past the $2,000,000 mark and they are confident the plant will go for at least that much - if the $6M+ bid is a bust.
