Board of Canvassers to meet today to review objections to Detroit mayoral primary recount

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Wayne County Board of Canvassers is expected to meet at Cobo Center today to review objections to the Detroit mayoral primary recount.

County workers have been examining ballots all week. The recount process was delayed on Thursday because of the power outage downtown, but workers returned Friday.

According to the city's election results, write-in candidate Mike Duggan received the most votes. Benny Napoleon came in second.

Both of their names are expected to appear on the November ballot.

The recount process is not expected to change who appears on the ballot in November, but challenges related to the primary results and the recount process have been filed.

The Board of Canvassers is expected to meet at 10 a.m. to discuss objections.

Wayne County is conducting the recount and will send the bill to the City of Detroit. Leaders tell 7 Action News the bill will still be paid despite the city's bankruptcy filing.
