DETROI (WXYZ-TV) — Detroit Police are searching for a man suspected of robbing a Detroit woman Sunday afternoon on her way home from the grocery store.

The incident happened on Charest between Halleck and Carpenter on Detroit's east side; it was all captured on home surveillance and the video has been shared on social media.

The victim is a 37-year-old woman from Bangladesh. She didn't want to show her face on camera, and spoke with Action News via an interpreter.

“She said she was walking and someone just come behind her and grabbed her purse," the interpreter told Action News.

The video shows the man running up behind the woman and lunging for her purse. He doesn't get it right away, and the woman pulls back, falling to the ground.

But then, he grabs for the purse again and manages to take the woman's ID, some cash, and a bank card according to Detroit Police.

Two men working at a home nearby tried to run and assist the woman, but the man got away.

Detroit Police are looking for a silver Honda Accord.

The woman, who moved to Detroit five years ago, said she was never scared to walk home from the store before.

“She feels a little scared to go out and go shopping right now," said her interpreter.

Anyone with information should contact Detroit Police or 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
