Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh has dropped his appeal and will begin paying the $250,000 settlement in his high profile sexting civil trial, 7 Action News has learned.

In November, a federal jury found Pugh responsible in the lawsuit filed by a former DPS student. The student said instead of mentoring him, Pugh pursued him sexually and even paid the teen to make a sex tape.

Court documents obtained by the 7 Investigators showed Pugh believed he should not have to pay because the accuser was already awarded a $350,000 settlement by Detroit Public Schools in the same case.

A month after he was found responsible, Judge David Lawson issued a judgment ordering Pugh to pay the $250,000.

The plaintiff was seeking a $1.5 million judgment.
