Charles Pugh spotted at New York event for journalists

(WXYZ) - Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh appears to have resurfaced in New York.

Instagram user Michael Feeney   posted a picture of Pugh to his account yesterday.

Feeney is a reporter with the New York Daily News. The caption for the Instagram picture says "Look at Charles Pugh at the NYABJ meeting!."

The former city council president went missing from city hall over the summer after the 7 Action News Investigators contacted Pugh about allegations of an improper relationship involving a student he mentored.

NYABJ is The New York Association of Black Journalists. A check of their website shows the organization had their September meeting of the General Body on September 9th at The New York Times.

From the photo, it is not clear if this is where it was taken.

Feeney is also the President of the New York Association of Black Journalist. He issued the following statement when asked by 7 Action News about Pugh and the photo:

Charles Pugh, along with over 150 other journalists and media professionals, attended the New York Association of Black Journalists general body meeting last night (Sept. 9). Our meetings are open to all journalists, including those visiting from other cities. I personally know Charles from working as a journalist in Detroit, however, I don't have any insight into why he is in New York City or any of the recent media attention he is receiving in Detroit.

Pugh has not been seen in Detroit since he was stripped of his power and pay by Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr. At the time he was facing allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a young man.

In June, Pugh was spotted in Seattle by a 7 Action News viewer who snapped a picture of him in a Starbucks. Since that picture was taken there have been reports that he was in New York City, but they have not been confirmed.
