DETROIT POLICE CHANGE OF SHIFT SCHEDULES / WORKING HOURS
After having numerous conversations with the hardworking men and women of the Detroit Police Department and having consulted with the union leadership of the Detroit Police Officer's Association and the Lieutenant's and Sergeant's Association, I have decided to institute a change in shift schedules and working hours at all precincts and districts.
Effective Monday, October 14, 2013, all patrol entities within the department will revert back to an eight hour shift schedule. In addition to the eight hour shifts, a ten hour "power" shift will be instituted at all precincts / districts. Those members who desire ten hour shifts will have an opportunity to bid for this assignment.
Further details on the changes to shift schedules and work hours, including shift assignments, and leave day selection will be forthcoming.
JAMES E. CRAIG
Chief of Police
