Could your family photos help tell Detroit's story?
A new series for public television, "Family Pictures: USA", is shooting its pilot episode in Detroit during June and July. The show is hosted by award-winning director Thomas Allen Harris and has partnered with the Detroit Historical Museum's Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward project.
Guests are asked to bring a selection of a dozen of their favorite photographs - digital or printed photos - and spend 10-15 minutes with Mr. Harris and the Family Pictures: USA Production Team telling their Detroit story. Producers are looking for each guest's take on the Motor City, its past, present and future, as seen through the lens of the family photo album.
Photos will be digitized and added to the larger Digital Diaspora Family Reunion archive. They are planning six community photo-sharing events around the city, culminating in a Grand Finale performance scheduled for July 21 in the 12th Street Community. Community partners include the Detroit Institute of Art, the Detroit 67 Project, the Detroit Historical Society and many others who will be co-hosting photo-sharing events.
Sessions are first come, first serve and RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Interview spots are limited to the first 30 people who sign up. Individuals, couples, families (by birth and by choice) and friends are all welcome.
