In the wake of a massive shooting that left 50 people dead and 53 people injured Sunday morning in Orlando, Fla., Detroit Police Chief James Craig wanted to let people know there is no threat to Detroit.
"I do want to say this, there are no specific threats to this region or to the city of Detroit," Craig said on Sunday afternoon. "I want to make that point clear."
According to Craig, he has been in constant contact with FBI Special Agent in Charge David Gelios about any possible threats.
"Here in Detroit, we're always in a constant state of readiness," Craig said. We like to not just react to situations, but proactively looking for the opportunity to keep our community safe."
Sunday was also the Motor City Pride Parade, which started amid the news of the shooting in Orlando that happened at a gay club.
Craig wanted to assure people that the parade would be safe, with uniformed officers and other assets he would not talk about there to keep people safe.
"This is the third year since I've been here that we have an LGBT liaison from the police department that is with this community," Craig said. "That has been very effective, and I am certain if they become aware of any threat, they will let us know.
