Nine-year-old India Williams is all smiles as she talks about her amazing experience flying a glider plane over the weekend.
The third grader understands she can do whatever she puts her mind to.
The only thing she cannot understand is why someone would recklessly fire shots in her neighborhood, causing a stray bullet to leave her paralyzed.
“This should not happen around the city - gun violence,” said India.
The incident happened September 14th, 2014 when India was just 7-year-old. She was innocently riding her bike with other kids along Charest on Detroit’s northwest side.
The gunman still has not been caught. Investigators believe he was driving a white Impala followed by a dark colored SUV or van around 5 pm that day.
It was captured on police dash cam video. The two vehicles were exchanging gunfire.
Now, little India, her family, and Crime Stoppers are making a simple plea to whoever knows anything about this crime.
“I just want somebody to speak. You can be anonymous,” said India’s mother Clinqute Lamar- Williams. “I just want anyone to say something.”
“Close your eyes for one minute and imagine yourself in their place,” said neighbor Reginald Bassett. “Imagine your little son, your little daughter, the one you put to bed every night, imagine if it was yours - would you want me to speak up?”
“And the worst part about it all is that someone knows,” said India’s aunt, Chante Lee, “Someone knows and someone is choosing not to tell, not to talk.”
Little India and her family believe her getting injured was an accident. She wishes for an apology one day and hopes someone with information can bring her a step closer to that dream.
“I mean, somebody is going go out here and tell you that you are a snitch because you said something? No, you would be her hero,” said India’s aunt Rebbecca Means.
A reward of $4,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in this case. An extra $1,000 has been added if the information comes before midnight.
