The Detroit emergency dispatch system is back online this morning after being disrupted for about two hours overnight.

Sources say the dispatch used by the Detroit Police Department, Detroit Fire Department and EMS was down, but went back online just after 4 a.m.

We're told computers in officer's patrol cars and cell phones were the only way emergency responders could communicate with dispatch.

According to police, 911 was not affected in the outage.

Another issue with the system being down means that radios for Wayne State police, Highland Park police and Hamtramck police. DPD's system is part of the larger Michigan Public Safety Communications System.

In 2013, the system went down, and police said the reason was due to overheating, causing the system to malfunction.
