Detroit Institute of Arts is throwing its annual program featuring the Oscar-nominated short films

Live action & animated shorts to be shown

DETROIT (WXYZ) - They may be the least known films nominated for Oscars, but they are often some of the most creative.  We're talking about the live-action and animated short films of 2012 that are nominated for Academy Awards.

You can watch all of them during the Detroit Institute of Arts' annual Oscar Shorts program. 

This year the program has been expanded from two weekends to three.

"It's really turned into a phenomenon in Detroit," said Elliot Wilhelm, Curator of Film and Video for the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).  "We actually are the city that draws the most people to this program."

"We present all 10 films," he added.

The films will be shown at the DIA's Detroit Film Theatre on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting February 1 st and running through February 17 th.

The Academy Awards will air live on February 24 th at 7:00 p.m. on ABC.

A brief intermission will be held between the animated and live-action film showings.
