Every month, Albert Dixon would pay his monthly water bill in payments of any where from $100 to $200.
He has receipts stating he used Western Union for payment services for all of his bills, including the payments to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.
He paid the pricey bills for a while that way because the 84-year-old has a bad knee and does not want to wait in line. After a while, things were not adding up for the part time trucker who is hardly home.
It turns out his water meter was not working properly and Albert has been overpaying his bills. He now has a credit of more than $3,400.
“I feel like I will give up on it because I feel like I will never get the money back,” said Albert.
He has tried to get thousands of dollars back from the water department but he says a worker told him that they cannot prove that Albert is really Albert, even though he showed the worker his ID and receipts.
Albert even went so far as to get a letter notarized from the bank, stating that Albert’s payments were made by him.
Albert, who does dangerous demolition work for a living, called 7 Action News for help.
He says he risks his life, making hard-earned money and would like that money back.
Thursday evening, 7 Action News spoke to a spokesperson from DWSD. She said they will work with Albert on getting his money back as soon as possible, if he will provide the right documentation.
