It was a scary scene on Detroit’s west side Friday evening as a woman raced down Grand River, slamming into a several vehicles and then crashing head on into a pole – all while her two-year-old daughter was in the car.

The first crash happened in a Meijer parking lot.

The woman then drove at high speeds for nearly a mile down Grand River, hitting four more vehicles.

“She hit two cars in the Meijer lot…then she pulled out and t-boned a lady in front of the Meijer gas station,” says Johnny George.

George says he watched the woman driving a Ford Taurus collide with not one, but five vehicles on Grand River near McNichols.

“She was swerving,” says George. “Then she hit another fella and forced him into a pole.”

Moments later George says the woman crashed head on into a pole herself.

“She hit about five cars in less than 5 minutes,” says Detroit Police Department Captain Mark Thorton.

Thorton confirms there were three occupants in the Ford Taurus - including a two-year-old girl who was seriously injured.

The captain says also in the car were grandma in the passenger seat, the mother behind the wheel and the two-year-old daughter in the back seat.

The captain says grandma and mom were under the influence of something

As for George, he says he’s in disbelief someone out here didn’t lose their life.

“It was a crazy scene,” he says.

The two-year-old was rushed to children’s hospital, where she is listed in serious condition.

As for the other drivers involved in the crash, four others were rushed to the hospital - thankfully with only minor.
