Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Merritt, 40, in connection with an alleged theft from a motor vehicle and misconduct in office.

On Sept. 19, Merritt was on duty at the Third Precinct in the 2800 block of Grand River when he allegedly removed a hydraulic jack and tools from a truck parked in the police parking lot and placed them on the ground.

Shortly after, he allegedly drove his personal vehicle over to the tools and put them in the rear passenger seat area.

He was charged as a result of an investigation conducted by the Detroit Police Department.

Merritt is currently suspended without pay from DPD.

He was arraigned on Friday.
