Detroit police officer, two children injured in crash on city's west side

Detroit police say an officer and two children were injured in a crash Saturday afternoon on the city's west side.

According to police, the officer was on the way to assist another unit when the officer hit a Chevy Impala with two kids inside. The crash happened near the intersection of Linwood and Tuxedo.

The officer did have lights and sirens activated.

Police say the driver of the Impala and the two children, ages 14 and 2, were transported to the hospital in temporary-serious condition. The officer also sustained minor injuries and is in temp-serious condition.

7 Action News talked to a witness who helped right after the crash happened.

"The driver was a little trapped they needed some assistance, we pushed up on the vehicle some and we was able to get her out," said witness, Cliff Crain.

The driver was also taken to the hospital in temporary serious condition.

There's no official word on the cause of the crash.
