It's the start of what officials for the City of Detroit hope will be the start of a fun Halloween tradition for children and families for years to come.

"We made a decision that we are going make Halloween centered around children again," said Mayor Mike Duggan at a press conference Wednesday where citizens who head their neighborhood associations and block clubs joined city officials for the announcement of activities for the first annual "Halloween in the D."

The events, planned across the city on October 31, include three houses provided by the Detroit Land Bank for a fun, Halloween-themed experience for children that will include refreshments and candy.

The houses that will be open on October 31 from 5 pm to 8 pm are located at the addresses below:

  • 14259 Archdale (District 1)
  • 18424 Hartwell (District 2)
  • 5282 Bishop (District 4)

On Halloween at Rouge Park, the Brennan Pool House, located at 21415 Plymouth Road, will be transformed into a haunted locker room.

At Chandler Park, the zombies rule as they take over as the park becomes "Zombie Ruins."

And at Clark Park, scary music and clowns will help set the scene for the "Creepy Carnival."

The park events will run from 5 pm to 8 pm.

At each police precinct, children will be able to "Trunk or Treat" out of the back of police cars. And candy will also be on hand for children at Detroit Fire stations.
