We have shown you how the teacher shortage in Detroit Public Schools is hurting kids, leaving them all too often in classes without teachers.

Now we are working to raise awareness of how you can be part of the solution.

Detroit Public Schools hosted “DPS Day,” a teacher recruitment fair, on Tuesday, May 24 at Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School. It is the first of several such fairs to be held in the coming months.

News about future events will be shared on the DPS website.

As a result of retirements, separations and new program offerings, DPS anticipates 250-350 teacher openings for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.

Applications are being accepted for all teaching areas. However, there is a critical need in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Mathematics, Secondary Science and World Language.
