Earthworks Urban Farm is making fresh produce available to low-income families. And if you still can't afford to buy the food, you can work for it during a volunteer day.

Volunteer days are Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

"We have volunteer days four days a week and, at the end of our volunteer sessions, we always make food available. So, this week for instance, we have plenty of lettuce - so we always make sure volunteers go home with something," says Patrick Crouch, Earthworks program manager.

Earthworks has a market day every Thursday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 1264 Meldrum in Detroit when produce goes on sale. Whatever doesn't get sold goes to a soup kitchen.
