The shut off of drinking water inside Detroit schools has caused a fear factor in the city.
People are concerned another Flint Water Crisis could be happening after tests showed high Lead levels in more than half of Detroit schools tested.
But Detroit Water and Sewerage officials say there is no cause to be concerned.
“When the water leaves the plant it is pristine,” said Gary Brown DWSD Director.
The Flint Water Crisis happened because of a switch to the Flint River from the Detroit Water system. The River was more corrosive, not properly treated and caused Lead service lines to leach.
In Detroit Brown said, “There are no lead service lines going into schools that we know of.”
And Detroit Public Schools Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said bottled water will be used in schools for drinking because “the initial thought is the cause is linked to specific infrastructure in the buildings that are obviously outdated. Linked to the piping even the filters.”
Testing of water in the city and schools will continue.
