The face of Detroit is changing as new census numbers just released show that the city's white population has had its first significant increase since the 1950s.

Kurt Metzger is the director emeritus for Data Driven Detroit, and he said new census numbers show Detroit's white population went up by about 8,000 residents last year. He said it points to a trend seen in other cities that have made a comeback.

Metzger said the development must be balanced. The census shows the city's black population saw a small decline. It also found almost 40 percent of Detroiters are living below the poverty line.
