Dr. Fakhruddin Attar and his wife, Farida, will remain in federal custody as their case moves forward

Dr. Attar, his wife, and Dr. Jumana Nagarwala are all named in an indictment. The allegations include conspiracy to perform genital mutilation on young girls.

Patients of Dr. Attar, Ernest and Christie Otter, came to the court for Wednesday's detention hearing to support Dr. Attar. They say they're conflicted by what's going on, but want to let the case play out and let Dr. Attar and his wife know that they care about them.

Defense attorneys argued that Dr. Attar and his wife are not a flight risk and that they did not perform any alleged procedures.

Dr. Attar's lawyer said that Dr. Attar wasn't even at the clinic when the procedures were allegedly performed on two 7-year-old girls from Minnesota in early February.

Dr. Attar, his wife and Dr. Jumana Nagarwala are all being held without bond pending trial.

So far, a trial date has not been set.
