A dispute between neighbors turned violent and ended with a shoot-out. Two people were shot, and both are currently in the hospital.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at dual family home near Kentucky and Buena Vista on Detroit’s west side.

The reason the shooting happened? Police say it was because of a garbage can.

"It's just a little hard to believe that an argument over a garbage can can escalate into two people shot and, as you can see behind us, there's been about 30 rounds that were fired between the two groups,” said Capt. John Svec with the Detroit Police Department.

Police said the one of the neighbors called for more family members during the fight and then shots were fired.  Thirty spent shell casings littered Kentucky Street.

Two men were shot  A 48-year-old is in temporary serious condition, while a 26-year-old is in stable condition.

"Something minor, they were arguing about stuff neighbors argue about,” said Svec.

Neighbors told 7 Action News the gunfire was scary. One woman said she grabbed her kids and ran inside.

Police said this kind of thing should be talked out.

"Someone's going to end up going to jail or getting killed.  It's just not worth it,” said Svec.

Svec said there are four people in police custody and detectives have identified everyone involved.
