DTE Energy expects customers to pay less for heating costs this winter.

The company said it has lowered its natural gas rate by 8 percent in January.

The rate drop combined with milder temperatures in November and December will lead to lower bills for DTE's natural gas customers this winter.

DTE expects the average customer's total winter bill to be about 27 percent lower or $182 less this season compared to last year's winter season.
