The family of 16-year old Michael Yost is demanding changes in the justice system, a day before the man responsible for killing their son receives his sentence.
Marlin Franklin says it doesn't make sense for 19-year-old William Worthy to get just four-and-a-half years in prison.
Investigators say Worthy crashed into Franklin and Yost, his stepson, in the car they were riding in, while driving a stolen Jeep on the city's west side in October of 2015.
Yost was a junior at the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy.
Franklin hasn't worked since then, and now uses a cane to get around.
He says with tears in his eyes, "Four-and-a-half years for my son's life is not enough, for what they see as a bad car accident. It's much more than that."
They tell us after Worthy turned himself in months later, he bonded out of jail. Shortly after, he was arrested once again for shoplifting.
The family is wondering if he learned a lesson at all.
Franklin plans to give a passionate speech in court Thursday morning before sentencing.
