Police are investigating a home invasion that ended in a tragic murder, taking the life of a loving father.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 5800 block of Vanborn on Detroit’s west side.

A man came the down stairs of his home to see what was going on when an intruder shot him multiple times. According to police, the victim was dead before he made it to the hospital.

Family members told 7 Action News that Darren Wyatt was shot eight times after someone broke into his home.

Seven people were inside at the time, including his 3-year-old daughter.

“She just saw her dad in the blood and said her dad was going to the doctor,” said Wyatt’s aunt, Tammy Watts.

The gunman escaped and nothing was stolen, except the 25-year-old father’s life.

According to loved ones, Wyatt was contractor with a big heart.

“The crime out here is very senseless because there are good people out here getting killed for no reason,” said Watts.

Wyatt's family not only has to deal with his devastating death, but they do not know how they will pay for funeral costs.

They have set up a GoFundMe page to help them.

In the meantime, they are asking anyone with information on his tragic murder to please call Detroit Police. Police are actively looking for the gunman.

“He didn’t deserve this. He was a working guy, a family man. He wasn’t in the streets doing wrong things and I just want someone to help our family get the pieces put together,” said Watts. “We just want someone to help our family find the murderer.”
