DETROIT (WXYZ) — "I still haven't been able to process it, honestly," said Jerard Love about the tragic death of his two-year-old son Bryson Potter.

Bryson was allegedly killed by his mother's boyfriend inside their home on Cloverlawn near Chicago on Detroit's west side.

"I'm just trying to stay focused and strong for my family," Love said as he sat in a wheelchair outside his home Tuesday.

Love is still recovering from a motorcycle crash in July that left him with a number of injuries, including a broken leg and two broken arms.

"With me being in the condition I'm in, I wasn't able to get out to the house," said Love. "There was no indication anything was going on. I don't know what to think."

Randon McMeekins, 28, has been charged with Felony Murder and First Degree Child Abuse.

Detroit Police said McMeekins claimed he heard a loud thump in the bathroom and when he went to see what happened, he claimed he found his girlfriend's two-year-old son unresponsive.

McMeekins took Bryson to Sinai Grace Hopsital where the toddler was pronounced dead. Detroit Police were called to the hospital where they placed McMeekins under arrest.

Investigators said Bryson was killed by blunt force trauma to his chest.

"It's just senseless," Love said. "I don't even hit my son."
