Homeless man tries to survive frigid temperatures

DETROIT (WXYZ) - As temperatures take a nose dive, most of us will cope by cranking up the thermostat.  But not everyone has a home to shield them from the harsh winter weather.

Late Saturday night, James "Dollar Bill" Miller found himself alone in the frigid cold and debating where to sleep.

He showed 7 Action News around an abandoned home he and others have turned to in order to escape the cold.  The place has no heat, no running water and no furniture.

But, it does have four walls and a floor.

"During the last arctic blast, five people died out here, frozen in the snow." said Miller

Many organizations and shelters reach out to the homeless during the worst of the winter weather, but some are unable or unwilling to take advantage of their services.
