'I just ask that, Lawrence, you turn yourself in so it won't be bad.' Family of suspect in deadly beating pleads with him to surrender

DETROIT (WXYZ) — "I just ask that, Lawrence, you turn yourself in so it won't be bad," said an aunt of Lawrence Davis, 23.

Davis is wanted in the beating death of 24-year-old Tyler Wingate. Hs been on the run since early Monday morning when the two men were involved in a crash near Livernois and Davison.

On Friday, as Detroit Police continued to search for him, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Davis with Open Murder.

"I don't want to see nobody harm him and I don't want to see nobody else get harmed out of the process," said Davis's aunt who did not want us to use her name or show her face, fearing retaliation on family members for the homicide. "It was already a tragedy which, once again, I'm sorry for those family's loss and I will keep saying it, sorry for their loss. That young man didn't deserve it either, but mistakes happen,"

Around 2 a.m. Monday morning, Detroit Police said Wingate was beaten to death after he was involved in a car crash. Davis was in the other vehicle and is accused of assaulting Wingate by hitting and kicking him multiple times.

After the assault, police said Davis fled the location on foot with three other men.

Wingate was pronounced decease at scene.
